Hawaiian Volcanic Red Dirt Pottery
Ever since my first visit to Maui in 1994 I have been experimenting with the natural volcanic red dirt of Hawaii.  After moving here in 1998 I seriously began working and trying many different techniques.  Since then, I've discovered several different techniques that utilize the natural colorants found throughout the islands.  Some result in gorgeous bright shades of orange, while others are very subtle shades of pinks and purples.  Whether I'm making a natural surface or one that incorporates a glaze, many of my ceramic works of art incorporate colors from the 'aina that make them special and one of a kind.
